July 6, 2007

Families living on the Red Head Road were invited to join us for a morning of fun activities with the specific purpose of training children on how they can remain safe as they walk, bike and play near the road. There were plenty of prizes drawn and a light lunch provided.

Canaport LNG is proud to support the Saint John's Junior Achievement (JA) program that is dedicated to educating and inspiring young people about business and economics. The JA experience helps young people discover leadership, entrepreneurial and workforce readiness skills so they can achieve their highest potential and future successes as citizens in the global community. Canaport LNG participated in 14 programs in the Spring of 2006 and will participate in the Winter 2007 program beginning in February.

Habitat for Humanity 2006 Building Project A team of 15 Canaport LNG employees joined Habitat for Humanity in their Building Project on December 1, 2006.

Canaport LNG was the official sponsor of the Canadian Red Cross Young Humanitarian Award presented to Saint John native, Brendan Sheehan. Congratulations Brendan for the example that you've set for all of us.

Red Head Road Clean-Up Day

On November 4th, 48 volunteers including employees, partners and project contractors spent the morning cleaning up trash along 7.2 kms of the Red Head Road.

  • We removed 40 industrial garbage bags of trash weighing over 600-700lbs.
  • We recycled 26 abandoned car and truck tires.
  • We removed 1/4 ton of demolition waste.
  • We removed 5 household hazardous waste items & two bulk items.
  • We recycled close to 500lbs of metal...enough to build two cars.

Canaport LNG partnered with ACAP Saint John for this event. Our next Clean-up is planned for Spring 2007. This is just one small part of our ongoing commitment to the community and the environment in which we all live.

Trick or Treat Halloween Notice Safety is our number one concern, so very early on Halloween morning, Canaport LNG employees handed out candy and friendly notices to nearly 300 workers at Canaport. The notice reminded workers traveling on the Red Head to watch out for the little trick-or-treaters who would be on the road that evening.

Lily Lake Pavilion Restoration Canaport LNG and Repsol YPF donated $440,000 to the Lily Lake Pavilion Restoration Project to help complete the building in time to open for the community.

Ocean Drive Playground Restoration

The Ocean Drive playground is a location where Canaport LNG wanted to make a small difference in a community. The playground equipment on the playground was over 30 years old and needed to be replaced.

Canaport LNG received approval from Saint John City Council to replace the playground equipment and create a small family park for the residents of the Ocean Drive subdivision. The improvements included replacing current structures with new modern playground equipment that is accessible and meets all CSA safety standards. In addition, we added metal picnic tables, benches, bleachers for the basketball court, walkways as well as hearty rose bushes and additional landscaping to help beautify the area.

The Ocean Drive Playground will be officially opened in June 2007 when it is turned over to the City.

Adidas Cup-National Club Soccer Championships Canaport LNG was a proud sponsor of the Adidas Cup – National Club Soccer Championships that took place on October 4th to 9th. Twenty-two teams represented their provinces in this prestigious national event. Approximately 2,000 visitors including family, friends, provincial, national and representatives and game officials attended this event.

Red Head Road Safety Days On August 11, 2006, Canaport LNG held the first Red Head Road Safety Day to educate the children and families of the area about bike and traffic safety. The Saint John City Police and onshore contractor SNC-Lavalin helped play a special role in educating the children of the Red Head area and ensuring that they remain safe. Along with games and prizes, the children reviewed road safety tips. This was the first of a series of safety promotional events that will be promoted by Canaport LNG.
