Community Involvement

When it comes to the community in which we operate, Canaport LNG is committed to helping our city thrive. For us, that means supporting the vitality of our community through the areas of education, environment and recreation activities for youth.

It is because of this mandate that we have had the opportunity to support many organizations since we first came to Saint John. These are a few of the ways in which we have become involved in our community:

Hat Trick for Reading

Canaport LNG and the Saint John Sea Dogs partnered to launch the "Canaport LNG Hat Trick For Reading" program, a new educational initiative promoting literacy. The program is aimed at students between kindergarten and grade 3 at 33 schools between Grand Bay-Westfield and Hampton. Students are asked to read three books and are eligible to win a voucher for three tickets to a Saint John Sea Dogs hockey game during the 2013-14 season.

River Valley Basketball Association

Canaport LNG has been a sponsor of the RVBA over the past several years, through offering support for tournaments, purchasing a new score clock for River Valley Middle School or purchasing uniforms. This league works hard to provide athletic opportunities for its youth members and we are proud to contribute to their efforts.

Saint John Sea Dogs Community Section

Canaport LNG`s main sponsorship focus revolves around youth. It is for this reason that we support the Saint John Sea Dogs throughout the season by offering tickets to youth organizations, hockey teams and schools to ensure that all youth are given the opportunity to attend a Sea Dogs game.

Safe Harbour Transitional Youth Services

Canaport LNG was pleased to support Safe Harbour with a donation of $20,000 toward building emergency housing for homeless and at-risk youth.

Although there are many services available for young people experiencing homelessness, such as
a longer term supportive housing program, there is currently no emergency housing program.
Safe Harbour Transitional Youth Services will provide emergency and transitional housing to homeless and at-risk youth. This is a need that has been identified by the many youth organizations in our community and is a crucial step in ensuring our youth can realize their full potential.

Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick

Canaport LNG was pleased to create a four year, fully funded scholarship for one student attending Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, the first medical school in the province. The scholarship provided full tuition costs, books and equipment and living expenses for one student for the full four years of their medical degree, at $35,000 per year. As New Brunswick’s first medical school, the DMNB program ensures medical education is more accessible to our students and encourages more doctors to stay in the province once they’ve finished their education.

Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation

Our facility was given the opportunity to support the hospital’s Neo Natal Unit and the renovations the department was undergoing to enhance the specialized care it provides.

After touring the hospital and seeing first-hand the impact it has in the families it serves, we provided a donation of $65,000 to purchase new state-of-the-art equipment for the hospital’s Neo Natal Unit.

The Saint John Regional Hospital`s Neo Natal Unit is something that can touch many families in the community and will help newborn babies for Saint John and surrounding areas and dor that reason, we were very happy to offer our support.
