Canaport LNG achieves ISO 45001:2018 health & safety management certification
Saint John, New Brunswick: We are very proud to announce Canaport LNG has been registered under the new ISO 45001:2018 Standard for occupational health and safety management systems, one of the very few in Atlantic Canada to achieve this milestone.
As the first internationally recognized standard dedicated to occupational health and safety in the workplace, ISO 45001:2018 outlines a clear framework for organizations to manage risks and identify opportunities to help prevent work-related injuries to its workers. Using the concept of continual improvement, this standard requires us to look beyond the immediate health and safety concerns at our terminal and also takes into account our contractors and suppliers, as well as the effects their activities have on the neighbouring community and other interested parties.
“We are really pleased to have achieved this prestigious accreditation,” said Sergio Carvana, Canaport LNG’s HSSE Manager. “Although we have followed this approach to occupational health and safety for many years now, this standard will help our organization improve our performance further by building a management system and compliance framework that provides specific guidelines and requirements and will reduce the risk of harm to employees and visitors to our terminal.”
At Canaport LNG, we demand the highest level of safety in all our operations. Our main priority is the safety and protection of our employees and contractors, our neighbours and the people in our community and our safety record is a testament to the amount of time and effort focused on health and safety activities.
As part of maintaining the ISO 45001:2018 certification, we must conduct periodical health and safety compliance audits to verify we meet all Federal and Provincial regulatory requirements and to ensure we continue to meet all aspects of protecting the health and safety of our employees, our terminal and surrounding areas.
Since 2012, we have also registered our Environmental Management System under the ISO 14001:2015 certification; the two standards will now work together in an integrated management system model.
