Canaport LNG donates $65,000 to Saint John's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Saint John, New Brunswick – Canaport LNG announced today the donation of $65,000 for the Saint John Regional Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This donation will serve some of the hospital’s most vulnerable patients by providing new state-of-the-art equipment for the unit.

“The decision to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was an easy one”, said Canaport LNG’s General Manager, Adolfo Azcarraga. “Helping to increase the level of care the hospital is able to provide will make an impact on these patients and their families during such a stressful time. This is something that benefits the whole community and we are more than happy to help fulfill this need at the hospital. ”

The donation will purchase an on-site micro sampling methods chemical and metabolic device, a non-invasive respiratory support device and audiovisual family library material and newborn symposium. The NICU provides the highest level of care for sick or premature infants. It also provides help to families during their time there as well as preparing them for taking their infants home. The NICU is currently undergoing renovations to install new equipment, upgrade the services it is able to provide and to offer increased assistance and privacy for families.

“This equipment will enhance the care and comfort we are able to bring to our hospital's smallest patients and their families,” said Dr. Luis Monterrosa, Perinatal – Neonatalogist at the Saint John Regional Hospital. “We greatly appreciate Canaport LNG's generosity which will allow our team to have state-of-the-art tools in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.”

The newly renovated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is expected to open in November.
